Scott Lay’s Nooner tracks potential candidates for State-level elected offices. Today he speculates on former Assemblyman Van Tran’s interest in returning to Sacramento:
- BOE4 (Southern California): added former assemblymember Van Tran (R)
- CD42 (Corona): added real estate agent Boyd Roberts (D)
- SD02 (North Coast): removed Marin supervisor Susan Adams (D)
- SD34 (West Orange County): removed former assemblymember Van Tran (R)
- AD36 (Antelope Valley): removed businessman Ron Smith (R)
With the FBI looking with such interest at OC Supervisor Janet Nguyen (and the union-funded Voice of OC, not the Register, all over it), the presumed Republican favorite for SD34 needs to be looking over her shoulder to see if there’s a top-two primary opponent other than Jose Solorio catching up to her. Van Tran still has plenty of support in the OC and we hope he’ll not make any hard and fast decisions until closer to the election. Otherwise, the unfortunate RINO Jim Silva will probably resurface to run for SD34. Silva has union friends we can do without, and wouldn’t beat the Democrat Solorio who has even more union friends. The GOP badly needs to retrieve this seat.
Plenty of others are showing an interest in BOE4 for its $124k/pa paycheck per this OCPB April post and we question why Van would want to take on competition that looks more formidable than if he chose to run for the more prestigious and lucrative four-year Senate position. He could certainly count on help from Assemblyman Travis Allen who won Tran’s old Assembly seat in a landslide. Allen’s District overlaps much of SD34 where Tran should also be able to count on significant support from past loyal Vietnamese voters.
