Donald Rumsfeld, the 13th Secretary of Defense from 1975 to 1977 under President Gerald Ford, and the 21st Secretary of Defense from 2001 to 2006 under President George W. Bush is speaking at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum on Monday, May 20, 2013. The event will be protested starting at 6:30 pm.
Rumsfeld is promoting his new Book “Rumsfeld’s Rules.”
The Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum is located at 18001 Yorba Linda Blvd., in Yorba Linda.
Rumsfeld was one of the primary architects of the Iraq war. He sanctioned the use of torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment. His ambitions and mistruths ended up costing over 100,000 lives. He has been described as a war criminal who must be brought to justice.
Eight retired generals and admirals called for Rumsfeld to resign in early 2006 in what was called the “Generals Revolt,” accusing him of “abysmal” military planning and lack of strategic competence.
Commentator Pat Buchanan reported at the time that Washington Post columnist David Ignatius, who traveled often to Iraq and supported the war, claimed that the generals’ and admirals’ views mirror those of 75 percent of the officers in the field, and probably more.”
The Orange County peace and justice community, including Code Pink and the OC Peace Coalition, will be out in full force on Monday opposing Rumsfeld. Click here to RSVP on their Facebook page.
