The Orange County Board of Supervisors are not just looking for a new O.C. Clerk-Recorder. They are also reviewing several candidates to fill in as our new O.C. Auditor-Controller. They whittled down their list of candidates for this position, which opened up last year when the previous office holder resigned, to seven finalists which have been named by the OC Political blog, as follows:
- George Beck
- James Benuzzi
- Jan Grimes
- Nick Pham
- Gustavo Rodriguez
- Eric Woolery
- Alexander Yu
Woolery is a former member of the Orange County Department of Education’s Board of Trustees. I have no idea who these other folks are – with the notable exception of Jan Grimes, who has been capably filling in after Deputy Auditor-Controller Shaun Skelly retired.
Supervisor John Moorlach is pushing for Grimes to get the job even though she has said she will not stand for re-election in 2014. For some reason the OC Political bloggers are upset about that but I don’t see why. Grimes can do the job. And if it opens up again then the voters can decide who should get the job. What is wrong with that?
Remember though that the guys at the OC Political blog, which is not related to our blog, are Republican consultants. The local GOP insiders view Orange County political jobs as opportunities to hire their cronies so presumably they want to see a crony get the job instead of letting it go to a pro like Grimes or letting the voters settle the issue in 2014.
