“A contractor who has done work for the County of Orange this week confirmed that FBI officials contacted him late last year with questions about County Supervisor Janet Nguyen,” according to the Voice of OC.
Additionally, another source told Voice of OC that they had a “wide-ranging” discussion with FBI agents about Nguyen’s fundraising activities, specifically in regards to county contracts.
I remember when Quang Pham was going to run for Congress. Nguyen sent her former Chief of Staff, Andrew Do, to meet with him. Pham was told that for $100K, Nguyen would make sure that Pham got a lot of press coverage in the Little Saigon community. That was a few years ago. After it happened Pham told me that the FBI was sniffing around Little Saigon – and Nguyen, according to his sources.
Remember that Nguyen was the key vote against letter grade health ratings for Orange County restaurants – and sure enough she did not tell the public at the time that her husband, Tom Bonikowski, was a partner in a Lee’s Sandwiches franchise in Stanton that had a horrible health record. His partner? Nguyen’s Chief of Staff, Do. Nor did Nguyen tell anyone that she had taken in at the time over $20K from other restaurant owners whose places of businesses had awful health records.
So what about squeezing County contractors? Former Santa Ana Councilman sure did that when he worked for the County – his campaign for supervisor was chock full of money from County and City contractors. You remember him right? Nguyen endorsed him four years ago. You see all of these folks play these games with other people’s money. But Nguyen just might have pushed the envelope a bit too much. FBI? Awesome. I hope this time they finally take her down.
