Former Orange County Clerk-Recorder Tom Daly is backing Renee Ramirez, who was his assistant clerk-recorder and is holding down the top job until supervisors make their appointment, according to the O.C. Register.
“She’s a Republican and she’s a Latina and the board should do the right thing and hire her,” Daly told the audience at Friday’s Democratic Foundation of Orange County luncheon of about 25 at the Irvine Hilton, again according to the O.C. Register.
Daly must think we have very short memories. Back in 2009, the Orange Juice blog reported that “Renee Ramirez was registered as a Decline to State Voter since 2003. Yesterday she filed as a Republican and showed up at the OC GOP Central Committee meeting trolling for endorsements…”
Ramirez might be more qualified than some of the politicians who applied to become our next Clerk-Recorder. But if you want a Republican to fill the post she doesn’t fit the bill. There are plenty of other Republican candidates who didn’t conveniently switch their party registration when they became interested in politics.
“Applicants include Chris Norby, former county supervisor and state assemblyman; Dick Ackerman, former state senator; Harry Sidhu, former Anaheim councilman; Steve Rosansky, former Newport Beach councilman; Renee Ramirez, the county’s assistant clerk-recorder who is currently heading the department; and Hieu Nguyen, who served as chief deputy recorder under former Clerk-Recorder Gary Granville,” according to the O.C. Register.
Nguyen is easily the most qualified candidate to replace Daly – and he has been a lifelong Republican.
