The Democratic Party of Orange County and the Orange County Young Democrats are hosting an Election Night watch party, on Tuesday night, Nov. 6, starting at 8 pm. The party will be held at Original Mike’s, in Santa Ana, at 100 South Main St.
RSVP at firstname.lastname@example.org of (714)835-5158. Suggested Donation of $5.00. Light appetizers will be served.
This will be a great opportunity to watch President Obama kick Romney’s tail! I doubt Romney will win any of Orange County’s Congressional Districts, with the exception of the one that is held by U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez, but Obama is a lock to win the State of California, and re-election.
It is too bad that the DPOC gave up on congressional candidate Sukhee Kang. It looks like U.S. Rep. John Campbell is going to thrash him. But we Democrats will be able to revel in Trevor Allen’s victory over Troy Edgar, in the 72nd Assembly District. Yes, Allen is a Republican, but Edgar is a complete ass!
The real question in Irvine won’t be Kang’s fate but rather that of his colleagues, Larry Agran and Beth Krom. Agran is in a tough race against Irvine Council Member Steven Choi, for Mayor of Irvine, and Krom is trying to get re-elected to the Irvine City Council, against a slate of well-funded Republicans that includes Christina Shea and Lynn Schott.
I think Agran and Krom will prevail, but I don’t think that their slate-mate, PK Wong, is going to make it. His appeal is too narrow and he has no name I.D.
I am not sure what is going to happen in Long Beach, where our Congressional candidate, Alan Lowenthal, has not raised as much money as the GOP challenger, Gary DeLong, who is a moderate on social issues.
The big race we are all tracking is one that pits two Democrats against each other. Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido has raised a ton of money and he is running a typically competent campaign. His top challenger, Santa Ana Council Member David Benavides, is running hard too – and his allies have hit Pulido with all kinds of vicious attacks – even going after his kids!
But don’t discount the Council races in Anaheim. I am hoping that John Leos will prevail. I know that Jordan Brandman is a Democrat, but he is such a corporate boot-licker. No thanks! I agree with Art Pedroza – we need to elect Leos and Duane Roberts. The latter is not a Democrat but he is a progressive and a member of the Green Party.
I will also be watching the State Ballot Measures closely. At last we have a chance to get rid of the death penalty and to reform three strikes. And I believe we are going to defeat Prop. 32 as well.
I won’t be at the Election Night Party, as I have to protect my identity, but I will be there in spirit. If you do go, have a great time and think of me…
