This morning’s Register awarded Richard D. Murphy that prize, and stiffed incumbent Ken Stephens for his support of Measure DD, a huge increase in the Los Al’s existing Telephone Users Tax. Los Al Mayor (and AD72 candidate) Troy Edgar supports this tax as well — it will gouge cell phone users, and other Internet-based communications. Cable and satellite television could also be subject to this expanded utility tax.
Faced with the onerous State-wide Tax Propositions 30 and 38 on the same ballot, one wonders what Edgar and Stephens were thinking in these recessionary times. Nothing sensible, or campaign-strategic to be sure. And certainly nothing of benefit to their little city.
