Los Alamitos Mayor and 72nd Assembly District Candidate Troy Edgar got fingered late yesterday by R. Scott Moxley in this OC Weekly piece: Troy Edgar’s Missing Mailer Money for being less than honest in his FEDERAL campaign finance reporting.
When will Edgar become such an embarrassment to his numerous endorsers that they being to rethink their support of this once congressional candidate? Will Moxley’s favorite Congressman, Dana Rohrabacher (left, with Taxin’ Troy) stick with him until the next revelation or will even he back off before Moxley rips him a new one? R. Scott also points out the OC District Attorney Rackauckas has been an enthusiastic Edgar supporter, but will he continue to be if Federal attorneys start taking a closer look that the Mayor’s adventures in campaign finance?
Well into election season, perhaps what’s more troubling is the OC GOP’s lack of vetting this candidate — Moxley looked over some required reporting in achieving this scoop (one of dozens he’s succeeded in, especially when his work’s compared to our mainstream papers) — something an intern might have discovered if Scott Baugh’s operation was operating properly and not doing it by rote.
Recall too that the OC GOP labeled Edgar as its 2011 “Tax Fighter of the Year” but apparently failed to take even a quick look at his record in Los Alamitos where he added or extended at least a dozen local taxes and fees — another FAIL for the party research effort. Edgar’s also refused to sign the Norquist/ATR Tax Pledge.
It’s about six weeks until the election. How much more will be revealed about Troy Edgar and how much more can his endorsers and the Orange County GOP absorb before they stop looking the other way? Or for another candidate to support?
