Sharon Quirk-Silva for the 65th Assembly District
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FULLERTON, CA — The Sierra Club California is stepping up their support of endorsed state assembly candidate, Sharon Quirk-Silva, by participating in a campaign phone banking session this Thursday evening, calling voters throughout the district to talk about why they should support her.
The Sierra Club California chapter endorsed Quirk-Silva before the Primary, with the Director, Kathryn Phillips, stating, “Sharon has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to environmental protection and Sierra Club California is confident that she will help protect California’s air, water and wild places. We are pleased to support her candidacy and look forward to working with her in the State Legislature.”
“As we enter the final phase of this campaign, I’m so proud to have the help of the California Sierra Club,” Quirk-Silva stated. She continued, “Like the Sierra Club, I understand that protecting the environment is not only the right thing to do but is also key to growing a vibrant 21st century economy. I am a staunch believer that we can protect our environment and still create good jobs. In fact, green and alternative energy technologies can be job creators. Orange County has the second largest number of green companies in California. I want to support those businesses and will advocate creating an even greener economy here in Orange County. The truth is, we need leaders who want to move our state forward and not use unsubstantiated, misleading arguments concerning job creation/loss to cut back or eliminate environmental gains. It is possible to protect our environment while creating good-paying jobs, and I am committed to achieving that balance.”
California’s largest environmental organization, Sierra Club California has 13 chapters and approximately 160,000 members statewide.
The Quirk-Silva campaign, which has knocked on over 12,000 doors through its aggressive field plan, is adding several organized phone banking sessions, such as this one, to its schedule. Last week, leaders from the women’s community joined forces to participate in a targeted precinct walk and then made calls on behalf of the candidate. This weekend, educators will participate in a precinct walk in support of Quirk-Silva.
California’s 65th Assembly District includes the cities of Fullerton, Buena Park, La Palma, Cypress, Stanton and West Anaheim.
