County Treasurer Shari Freidenrich installed as President of the Association of Public Treasurers of the United States and Canada
On Wednesday, August 15, 2012, Shari Freidenrich was installed as the 48th President of the Association of Public Treasurers of the United States and Canada (APTUSC) during their Annual Conference held in Williamsburg, Virginia. The mission of APTUSC is to provide quality treasury management education and training, professional certifications, peer interaction, and professional connection opportunities for public treasury and financial officials.
Shari has been a member of APTUSC since 1996 and has been a member of the Board of Directors for the past six years. In addition, Shari has been active on several committees including the Membership and Investment Policy Certification Committees. Shari has earned her Certified Public Finance Administrator (CPFA), Certified Public Funds Investment Manager (CPFIM), and Advanced Certified Public Funds Investment Manager (ACPFIM), all of which are accreditations offered by APTUSC. These accreditations either require education and experience minimums, or require passing an exam.
Shari is the elected Treasurer for the County of Orange, the sixth largest County in the nation. She was elected in November 2010 and previously had been the elected Treasurer for the City of Huntington Beach since 1996. Prior to her entering public service, Shari was the Controller for McDonnell Douglas Travel Company and an Audit Manager with Deloitte & Touché. Shari graduated summa cum laude from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting.
APTUSC has over 1,200 active members and was started by local municipal treasurers in California who saw a need for a national treasurers association. In 1966, the California Municipal Treasurer’s Association sent invitations to their annual Treasurers conference in Palo Alto to cities nationwide of over 10,000 in population and 20 out-of-state municipal treasurers attended. The first national treasurers’ meeting was held in Washington D.C. in 1968. Even though California Treasurers started APTUSC, Shari is only the seventh Treasurer from California to be installed as President of APTUSC.
