THOMAS HOLGUIN ANNOUNCES BID FOR AUHSD BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Former Trustee Favorite Enters Race to Bring Pride & Integrity Back to Anaheim Schools
ANAHEIM, CALIF – Today, Thomas “Hoagy” Holguin, longtime Trustee and past President of the Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD), kicks off his campaign to win a seat back on the Board of Trustees on November 6, 2012.
With an impressive list of supporters including Supervisor Janet Nguyen, Former Anaheim Council Members Frank Feldhaus and Lucille Kring, CentraliaSchool District Trustee Irv Trinkle, North Orange County College Trustee Honorable Tony Ontiveros, Magnolia School District Trustee Barbara Quintana, and Orange Unified School District Trustee John Ortega, Holguin holds the confidence of prominent leaders at both the Federal and local levels with over 10 years of on the job experience and a track record for getting things done. “Hoagy has a proven record of protecting our schools and the integrity to make hard decisions,” said Trustee Irv Trinkle.
Among his top priorities are to increase recently fallen graduation rates at Anaheim high schools and bring fiscal efficiency to the District through eradication of arbitrary pay raises and rebidding of all District vendor contracts. Through defeating wasteful spending by the current Trustees, Holguin vows to protect jobs and prevent further elimination of athletics and other vital after school programs. As general contractor and business owner, Thomas Holguin was instrumental in bringing fiscal responsibility back to the Anaheim Union High School District’s recent bond-funded construction projects.
“As a parent of three daughters, grandparent of six, and Anaheim resident of over 30 years, I have a vested interest in our schools and will work hard to preserve limited resources. I will bring integrity and pride back to our schools and to our students,” says Holguin. AUHSD has currently one of the lowest graduation rates in the County with a minimum graduation grade point average threshold of below 2.0.
Along with Holguin’s excellent record as a public servant, he has over 1,000 volunteer hours with community organizations such as the Anaheim Redevelopment and Housing Commission, Anaheim Boys & Girls Club, Anaheim Community Redevelopment Block Grant, Former Trustee of the North Orange County Regional Occupational Program (ROP), Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, and City of Hope.
