An anonymous blogger at the OC Political blog has ripped into Travis Allen, one of two Republicans facing off in November for the 72nd Assembly District, on the grounds that Allen is “too squishy for the Assembly.”
Many in the media, including this blog, reported early on in the primary election that Allen had donated to a few Democrats over the years. He is not contesting that.
Apparently one of Allen’s uncles is Frank Barbaro, the longtime Chairman of the Democratic Party of Orange County. It was Barbaro that asked Allen to make the donations in question.
To that I say who cares? Allen is running against a former Democrat by the name of Troy Edgar. Take a look at Edgar’s record and you will see that, as a Los Alamitos Council Member, he pulled strings to hand the Los Alamitos garbage hauling contract to a company that has donated to his campaigns – and they were not the low bidder. He has also been involved in numerous tax hikes and fee increases over the years – that is his record and he cannot run from it. So instead he is making stupid attacks on Allen.
Well, you can pick your friends but you can’t pick your family. Allen is stuck with Barbaro and that is what it is. But did you know that the much venerated dead former Chairman of the OC GOP, Tom Fuentes, came from a family that was entirely made up of Democrats? That’s right – he told me this himself.
And what about President Ronald Reagan? Like Edgar he was once a Democrat and he voted, as Governor of California, to legalize abortion and to raise taxes. Yet, like Fuentes, he is a sainted Republican today.
Allen is a businessman who may have given a few hundred bucks to a handful of Democrats but like many of us he is fed up with the liberals in Sacramento and he intends to fight for freedom and less government. Edgar? His goal seems to be lining his pockets and enriching his pals. No thanks.
By the way, Edgar is working with former Assemblyman Van Tran’s “Trannies” – the most corrupt Republicans in Orange County. That figures.
