I got an email campaign update today from Fullerton Council Member Sharon Quirk-Silva, who is the Democratic nominee for the 65th Assembly District. She is running against popular Libertarian-leaning Republican Chris Norby, the incumbent.
What surprised me about this email update was a picture of Quirk-Silva’s supporters. They all appear to be white. What’s up with that? The 65th A.D. has a lot of Asian and Latino voters, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at the picture above.
Apparently Quirk-Silva also participated in the City of La Palma’s 5K Fun Run/Walk, crossing the finish line with interns Dennis, Gurcharan, Maggie and Mykel, who are pictured above. Naturally half her intern team appears to be white, but at least this time she got a couple of minorities involved.
If you look at Quirk-Silva’s website you will see that there are few minorities pictured there as well. The picture below is particularly funny – one Asian guy surrounded by white people!
Norby by the way is married to a Columbian lady and he speaks passable Spanish. And his Chief of Staff is Vietnamese… In fact there are more people of color in his family portrait than in any picture on Quirk-Silva’s campaign website:
