Moderation isn’t working anymore for Orange County’s labor leaders, according to the Voice of OC. When has this far-left bunch ever been moderate? It is true however that this year they have seemingly lost their minds – lining up behind union consultant Julio Perez for the 69th Assembly District, behind the crazed rantings of labor boss Teferi Gebre, who describes his political views, on Facebook, as “very liberal.” LOL! Gebre lives in Carlsbad – a city with an $85K median income. How 1% of him!
Backing Perez is such a bad idea that both Assemblyman Jose Solorio and State Senator Lou Correa, as well as DPOC Chairman Frank Barbaro, have had to remind local Democrats that the 69th is a moderate district. Of course when the Democrats hold their meetings at a union hall, you can’t expect much in the way of moderation. And so Perez is now bragging that he won a strong majority of support from Democratic Party Delegates during a Pre-Primary Endorsement Conference held this weekend. Of course he did! Would you expect much else from these liberal nuts?
Committed to raising taxes – union hack Julio Perez, Assembly Speaker John Perez and labor boss Teferi Gebre
I have already written a detailed post about how the OC Labor Federation’s endorsements utterly failed in 2010 – expect more of the same in 2012 and worse as President Barack Obama is going to utterly tank in Orange County. But Perez could be their biggest failure of all time. The labor unions will surely spend a fortune on him, as they did on Republican John Leos‘ Anaheim City Council race in 2010. Leos, an OCEA board member, lost and so did the two candidates endorsed by the Democrats. The Anaheim City Council is now firmly controlled by allies of former Mayor Curt Pringle.
OC Labor also spent a huge amount of money trying to stop conservative Shawn Nelson. They lined up behind Anaheim City Councilwoman Lorri Galloway and then behind Anaheim Councilman Harry Sidhu. Both got their tails kicked and Nelson is now the Vice Chair of the OC Board of Supervisors.
OC Labor boss Teferi Gebre rails about the 1% but vacations in style – and lives in pricey Carlsbad
Here is what we know about Perez – he will be a total union hack in Sacramento. He won’t vote to reform public pensions. he will vote to increase taxes. He will definitely be a job killer. How can someone like that be taken seriously as a candidate in Orange County?
Santa Ana Council Member Michele Martinez may not have a bunch of union hacks on her side but she does have the help of local elected officials and her campaign is getting a lot of help from Latino legislators in Sacramento. The lame leftists backing Perez are taking her lightly – just as they did Loretta Sanchez and Lou Correa. They won without help from this bunch. I suspect Martinez is going to do the same.
Beth Krom’s congressional campaign bombed in 2010, despite the OC Labor Fed’s support
There are two other Democrats in the race. Tom Daly may as well be a Republican. He was anti-Latino as the Mayor of Anaheim and he is a huge crony now that he is the O.C. Clerk-Recorder. He exists to hire his friends and enrich lobbyists. He has no website and it is rather obvious he is running so he can raise money for reelection to his current office. And candidate Francisco Barragan is a total joke. He is unknown, is not running a campaign and is on the ballot simply to split Santa Ana votes from Martinez. In reality he will help her by splitting the male voter further. Martinez, as the only woman in the race, starts out of the gate with half the vote.
The Republicans are not a factor. Their candidate, Robert Hammond, lost this seat two years ago and is destined to fail again. They would have a shot with former Anaheim Councilwoman Lucille Kring. But she is not in the race so they are stuck with the far too socially conservative Hammond. Fail.
In an Open Primary, you have to figure Martinez will do very well. She has run for office three times and won twice. She is the only woman in the race. She is the only prominent candidate from Santa Ana, which dominates the 69th. Perez is unknown and too liberal, Daly is a hack who is running for the wrong reasons and Hammond is a token candidate with no chance of winning. I will be laughing hard when the labor hacks have to line up and kiss Martinez’ behind after she wins in June.
