Did you know that neither the Democratic Party of Orange County nor the Republican Party of Orange County offer their websites in Spanish or Vietnamese? It doesn’t cost anything to include a Google Translate widget on your website. I offer that feature on all of my blogs. Yet neither the red nor the blue parties in Orange County appear to give a damn about minority voters who may not be all that fluent in English.
When you run for office in Orange County, your ballot statement gets translated into several languages. That has actually been a factor in some races. So why don’t our red and blue parties at the very least install the free Google Translate widget on their website? It just goes to show you that neither of these parties really cares about anything other than getting their boys elected.
When I ran for the Santa Ana Unified School District’s School Board in 2010, I shamed them into adding a Google translator widget to their website. They now offer a more advanced translation tool – but until I brought it up this simply wasn’t an issue for the SAUSD.
Now I am challenging the DPOC and the OC GOP – stop ignoring voters and their families who may not read English well. Add Google Translate’s widget to your websites. It is the least you can do! Especially in a presidential election year when both of your parties will be begging minority voters to pick their red or blue candidate!
UPDATE: The DPOC has updated their website. Now it has NO Spanish at all. FAIL.
